True Oak's Beliefs
We believe in the Bible. We believe the Bible is sufficient, providing all the truth that is necessary to know God personally, to understand the way of salvation and to sustain the Christian life. We believe it is true and without error. We believe it is God’s revelation to man and therefore should be studied and obeyed.
We believe in the God of the Bible. The God who is one, yet three. The God who is loving, merciful, perfect, holy and just. We believe God is sovereign and therefore controls all that has come to pass or will come to pass.
We believe God is the creator, that He made the world and everything in it in six literal days.
We believe that sin is inherited and all have fallen short to the standard of righteousness. In an act of disobedience, man sinned in the garden of Eden thus our first parent Adam passed on that sinful nature to all and that all are born in a guilty state before God and are objects of His wrath. We believe that in our natural state that sin has permeated every area of our life and we, therefore, have a nature that is hostile against our creator.
We believe that God is a God who is holy and just and must judge man for their sinful deeds. We believe that judgment includes hell which is a literal place of eternal torment.
We believe in Jesus, the second person of the Trinity. He was born of a virgin and is the perfect, holy, Son of God. We believe He lived a perfect and blameless life, that He died, was buried and on the third day rose again. We believe His death and resurrection were literal and is the only way provided for man's salvation. Christ accomplished this penal substitutionary atonement for man’s sin as He died on the cross and experienced the Father's wrath in our place. We believe that through this act, our sin was placed into His account (imputation) and He was judged as if He had lived our life and sinned our sin, even though He had never sinned once. We believe that God placed His righteousness into our account (imputation) and we are treated as if we lived His life. We are accepted by God solely on the basis of Christ's perfection and righteousness.
We believe in the Gospel. The message of good news concerning Jesus’ perfect life, substitutionary death and glorious resurrection. We believe that the sinner is saved by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone.
We believe there is no salvation outside of Jesus Christ and that no man can come to the Father but through Him alone.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity. We believe He indwells all believers at the moment of placing their faith in Jesus and gives them the desire and ability to live a life that is pleasing to God. We believe the Holy Spirit leads believers daily to honor and glorify Jesus with their lives.
We believe in the Church. We believe the church is not a building but is comprised of all those who have believed in Jesus Christ and are considered His body. We believe the Church has been tasked with the Great Commission and therefore has the responsibility to take the good news to all the world. We also believe the local body of believers are required to meet regularly together for worship, preaching/teaching, prayer and fellowship.
We believe in families that honor God. Marriage is an institution given by God and is defined by the union of one man to one woman. We believe that a healthy marriage is meant to be a picture of the intimacy Christ enjoys with His bride, the Church. We believe any alteration to this is a blasphemous attack on the God’s design for family including the aborting of any baby for any reason from the time of conception.
We believe in a literal and eternal heaven. It is currently where the community of the redeemed will live together with God until the New Heaven and Earth come into existence. We believe heaven is a place of no pain, no sorrow, no sin and no death.
We believe in glorification. In the near future Jesus will return to gather all His saints to Himself in the rapture of the church. We believe that all who have been saved will live forever in a new glorified body in a New Heaven and a New Earth. Until then we are given the task to glorify and obey God along with sharing our faith with the world.
We believe in Baptism. It is one of the two ordinances committed to the local church. We believe full immersion baptism is the faithful picture of a believer identifying with the work of Jesus Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. We believe baptism is a picture of salvation, but that salvation is not dependent upon it. The regenerate work of the Holy Spirit occurs at the precise moment an individual places their faith in Christ. However, we do not believe baptism is an option for the true believer. While it does not impart salvation, it is seen as an identifier and mark of one’s true faith in Christ.
We believe in the Lord’s Supper. It is the other ordinance committed to the local church. We believe that communion should only be observed by true, repentant believers who have examined themselves (1 Cor. 11:23-32). There is no set frequency of partaking of the Lord’s Supper presented in Scripture, but we choose to offer communion on the first Sunday of every other month.
We believe in Spiritual Gifts. We believe that all believers are called to do good works (Eph. 2:10). We believe God has equipped all believers with unique spiritual abilities intended to help grow the body of Christ. We believe there are two types of gifts given to the church. In the early church, believers were given miraculous gifts of divine revelation and healing which authenticated the message of the apostles as they spread the gospel. Once the New Testament revelation was completed, Scripture has become the sole test of the authenticity of a man’s message. We do not believe the miraculous gifts are necessary any longer to confirm or validate a man or his message. We do believe the Holy Spirit equips believers with ministering gifts for the edification of one another, and that the only gifts at work today are these equipping gifts (Romans 12:6-8). While we do not believe that any individual today possesses the gift of healing, we do believe that God does hear and answer prayers offered in faith for the sick, suffering and afflicted according to His will.
We believe in the giving of financial offerings. We believe this responsibility is given to the membership of the church. While all believers are called to give, we believe it to be a futile gesture for anyone to give because of any external pressure or begrudgingly. We believe Christians are called to give sacrificially, cheerfully, and generously, knowing they are partnering in the furtherance of the church’s ministries and helping to meet the needs of others. We believe that the New Testament principle of giving should be followed as it is found in 2 Cor. 9:6-7, “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
