FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
“Your church slogan is 'A Different Kind of Church.' What does that mean?”
Although we refuse to compromise on the standards taught in God’s Word, TOF is a place where you are accepted where you are while you’re on your way to where God wants you to be. We believe in being real and honest. What does that mean? You don’t have to wear a mask or hide. It’s okay to admit your life struggles without fear of shame, condemnation, or rejection. As long as you truly want to change and are willing to submit to God and ask Him for help, we will walk alongside you and support you all the way to healing!

“A Different Kind of Church” is also an invitation for people to experience the power and presence of God in an environment of radical love. We believe in total dependence on God, and we’re seeing Him do miracles in the lives of people.

We believe these are but a few of the distinctives that make us different from a lot of other churches.

“Why don’t you guys dress up for church?”
We believe God is more interested in your heart than your clothes. At TOF feel free to ditch the suit or the fancy dress and throw on your favorite pair of jeans, you’ll fit right in!

“Why do you have a band and praise team instead of a choir and a big pipe organ?”
We respect, value, and see a legitimate place for a more traditional approach to worship. However, we have found that a more contemporary approach to praise and worship is better suited to our context. We don’t consider our approach to be superior, just more suitable for us. Remember, it takes all kinds of churches to reach all kinds of people.

“Are you a charismatic church?”
If by the term “charismatic” you mean we believe that every Christ-follower must seek wholeheartedly to be filled with the Holy Spirit each day, then the answer is “yes.” Both the fruits of the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit are essential parts of the Christian life. But if by the term “charismatic” you are referring to the historic Pentecostal or Charismatic traditions, then the answer is “no.” At TOF you will see enthusiastic, free and open expressions of worship. You will see people with a radical dependence upon the Spirit for everything. What you won’t see are the bizarre practices commonly associated with some extreme charismatic groups.

“Theologically speaking, are you liberal, moderate, or conservative?”
Our methodology and approach are contemporary but our theology is conservative. We hold to the historic doctrines of the evangelical Christian faith.

“Do you belong to a certain denomination?”
We are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, and the Grady County Baptist Association. But we prefer to identify ourselves, first and foremost, as a fellowship of Christ followers. Our congregation is made up of a diverse group of people from various evangelical Christian traditions and denominations. We extend membership to anyone who has genuinely crossed the line of faith, been baptized by immersion, holds to the essentials of the Christian faith, lives a demonstrated lifestyle of Christian devotion, and signs a TOF membership covenant.
